Some people say that optimism is a much over-rated thing in this world. It may be true, it may be not, but the point is - what’s wrong if optimism is over rated? At least it generates good vibes to the people who practice it, right?
Though there are many different meanings to the word optimism, all these meanings have one common point. That is: Being optimistic makes you feel good and more motivated to keep going even when things get tough.
Besides making you feel happier, optimism can also be used as a tool to influence other people. Good thing is that they will also feel inspired and motivated by your optimistic attitude. Also, being optimistic about situations can help you relieve your stress.
We all experience bad days and situations. And if you keep dwelling on your unpleasant problem, there is high probability that your flow of thoughts will be hindered by those unnecessary stress. You can eliminate those unnecessary stress by changing those negative thoughts into more positive and cheerful ones.
To put it simply, just try your best to see the good in every bad situation. You might say that is is easier said than done, and admittedly, it takes practice for someone to be able to see the bright side in every kind of situation. Nevertheless, you just have to try doing so and eventually you will find it easy to see the positive side of every situation.
Although not everybody believes in the power of optimism, there are still numerous people who consider this attitude as their fueling force to keep on reaching for their goals no matter what happens. The possible reason why some people do not believe in the power of optimism is because they have witnessed some people who use optimism as the ONLY source of their inspiration, which is actually, unhealthy and unproductive.
The power of positive thinking will not be fully unleashed if it is being used alone. Imagine a poor man who wants to get rich and power and using the power of positive thinking, he hope that somehow, someday that he is able to achieve that. Obviously, the poor man will be nowhere near his goal.
Thus, the power of optimism will be fully unleashed when you combined it with motivation, determination and effort. Optimism alone will get you nowhere unless you combine it with hard work.

What did you do the last time you thought you had a bad habit? Nothing much, right? Perhaps just told yourself that you can’t continue like this. But telling yourself once can’t really fetch desired results. Repetitively uttering resolutions, instead, does the trick. So how do you go about it? Write down your resolution somewhere and go over it as many times as possible. Repeating these affirmations day in day out ultimately makes you believe in them. Nowadays, affirmations are so popular that you can even buy them in the form of CD’s and cassettes. It’s great if you, too, want readymade affirmations for yourself. But it’s always better to create your own affirmations (since no one else understands your emotional needs better).
So what exactly should you remember while making your own affirmations? Go through the checklist below and find out-
1. The first thing that you need to remember is the final purpose of your affirmation. Any affirmation, no matter what purpose it is taken for, should make a person behave positively. For the same reason, the tone of your affirmation should not be negative. Do not use ‘do not’ in your affirmation even if it sounds perfectly correct. Instead, give your affirmation a positive tone. Consider this example- you have a habit of smoking and you create an affirmation that reads- ‘I don’t smoke cigarettes.’ Though the affirmation sounds grammatically right, your mind may take it otherwise. For some odd reason your mind might get stuck to the words ‘smoke cigarettes’ in isolation and you’ll fail to achieve positive results. So your affirmation should read something like this- ‘I should take care of my heart and lungs. Smoking won’t help’.
2. Next in line is how you make your mind take to the affirmation you have created. Perhaps your affirmation says ‘What I do now will affect my future’. If you actually want to believe in this you have to read it innumerable times. Remember, the biggest secret of making your affirmation work is repetition. But then repetition is not all. So what more do you need? You need to empower your mind so that it can linger over the true meaning of each word. The very first instance you can make your mind linger on ‘I’. Look within and decide whether what you’re doing will nurture your future or not. The very next instant you can focus on how your present actions can actually mould your life in future. Lastly, ask yourself how you’d like to see yourself in future. Repeating your affirmation singularly will not be as beneficial as when you combine that with inflection.
3. Thirdly and lastly, don’t pressurize yourself too much all at once. Going through an affirmation might seem to be the easiest thing but incorporating it can be really difficult. The human mind is an utterly sensitive region and the moment it experiences a change in surroundings it starts responding. Put simply, positivity is infectious in nature. Spend some time with a positive person and you’ll immediately feel a difference in the way you respond to your surroundings. Similarly, when you become successful in acquiring positivity, you’ll influence people around you the same way.
Having positive people as company, though, will not solve your problems immediately. What you need to possess above everything is self- belief. You need to fervently believe in your goals and aspirations. No instance should come when your faith in yourself falters. Your self- belief should move up with every passing day. The secret behind a winning attitude is the belief that nothing is impossible. And nothing means nothing. The moment you think what you believe in is impossible to attain you’re unintentionally making space for negativity.
